Andrew Bieman

Andrew Bieman is an associate at the firm. Andrew joined the firm as an articling student after graduating from the University of Alberta Law School with his Law Degree (Juris Doctor Degree) in 2022. Before law school, Andrew graduated from MacEwan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) in Political Science.

While Andrew was in law school, he focused his studies on criminal law, and quasi-criminal law. He completed courses in criminal procedure, bail, advanced evidence, mental health law, prison Law, advanced criminal law, and constitutional litigation.

Andrew also gained practical experience in all three years of law school as a volunteer and, in the summer months, as an employee working for the Student Legal Services Criminal Law Project. In his second year of law school, Andrew worked as a Student Legal Service Day leader defending individuals charged with various criminal offences. In his third year of law school, Andrew was one of two Student Legal Services Criminal Law Project Coordinators. In this role, he continued to defend individuals charged with criminal offences while supporting other law student volunteer caseworkers. His experience at Student Legal Services confirmed his passion for criminal law.

While Andrew articled, he defended clients charged with criminal offences such as assault, property offences, weapon offences, and impaired driving. He also assisted lawyers at the firm on cases where clients have been charged with criminal offences including murder, sexual assault, and fraud. Most notably, Andrew was granted leave by the Courts to assist counsel at “second chair” at lengthy and complex murder and sexual assault trials.

Since becoming a lawyer, Andrew has defended clients against various criminal charges such as theft, fraud, assaults, sexual assaults, drug offences, impaired driving, and weapons offenses. He has conducted trials in the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta (including Judge and Jury trials) and trials in the Alberta Court of Justice.

In addition, Andrew has defended clients detained under the Alberta Mental Health Act along with people issued driving suspensions for impaired driving under SafeRoads Alberta.

Andrew understands the stress that comes from being charged with a criminal or regulatory offense and he is committed to ensuring his clients are heard and receive the best possible outcome.
